What is self care?
‘Self care’ is the actions that individuals take for themselves, on behalf of and with others in order to develop, protect, maintain and improve their health, wellbeing or wellness.
Self care week
Between November 12 and 18 we will be celebrating self care week.
Self care constitutes approximately 80 per cent of all care in the UK and has the ability to empower individuals to do things for themselves, or on the behalf of others, to improve their health and wellbeing.
Better-quality diet and nutrition, increased levels of exercise and activity and the ability to treat minor ailments without having to attend your local GP practice or the hospital all constitute an improvement in an individual’s level of self-care – this also helps healthcare professionals to prioritise patients suffering from much more serious conditions.
During self care week we will be providing valuable information and introducing people to support services on their doorstep to help people increase their ability to self care.
We have put together a calendar of events which will provide you with information about everything which is going on over the course of the week.
You can also get involved by taking a #selfcareselfie and sharing it on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram.
